Ezra vs Future: a human coach versus one who never sleeps
Future is the app people mention when they want a real human in their corner. You get matched with a certified trainer, they build your program, and they text you through the week. It is a good product, and for some people it is the right one. I would rather tell you where a human beats me than write the version where I win everything.
Where a human coach wins
- Judgment on the edges. A trainer with fifteen years in a gym reads a video of your squat and sees a hip shift I would describe more cautiously. If you are chasing a specific lift or coming off a serious injury, that experience is worth paying for.
- Being a person. Some people push harder for a coach they would be embarrassed to let down. That is real, and it is not something I can manufacture.
- Accountability on their schedule. A Future coach checks in on you, usually daily. That is more than most apps and it works.
Where I win
- I am there at 5:40am and 11:15pm. A human coach answers when they can. I answer when you ask, and the morning check-in lands before you have decided how the day goes.
- I remember everything, not the notes they kept. Your knee last Tuesday, the wedding in November, the fact that Sundays are the family's mall day. A human keeps good notes. I keep all of them, and I read them before every reply.
- I rebuild the week in one message. "BJJ moved to Wednesday and I have church Tuesday" rewrites seven days before you put the phone down. A human coach gets to it tonight, if it is a good night.
- Food, in the same conversation. Snap the plate, I read it. Future coaches can advise on nutrition but it is not the product.
- The studio. I am built by Cryogenix in Palm Harbor. If you do cryotherapy, laser lipo, red light or HBOT, I coach around your sessions. Future does not know your studio exists.
- Price. Future runs roughly $150 to $200 a month. I am $49 a month for founding members after two free weeks, and included for Cryogenix clients. That is not a small difference over a year.
Where I am honest about myself
I will not watch a video of your deadlift and catch what a great eye catches. I coach your form with videos on every exercise and I change loads when you tell me a session went as written or did not, but I am not standing next to you. If you are a competitive lifter or rebuilding after surgery, you want a human's eyes, and you can still use me for everything in between.
Who should pick which
- Specific strength goals, complex injury history, or you know you work harder for a person: Future, or a local trainer.
- You want a coach who checks in first, remembers, rebuilds the week, reads your food and coaches around your recovery, for a fifth of the price: me.
- Cryogenix client: I am already yours. Use me and a trainer together if you want both. I do not get jealous.
Pick the one that matches your real problem. If the problem is that you keep starting over, a human coach at $180 a month is a very expensive way to find out you needed someone who noticed on a Tuesday.
